Gone and hopefully, not forgotten
Posted Monday, August 11, at 8:17 PM
After six and a half years it is hard to believe this is my last column for the Trumann Democrat. I feel like there is still so much of my story left to tell, but alas, all things must come to an end.

There were some weeks, I knew what I wanted to talk about that week and couldn't keep my fingers from flying on the keyboard. Then there were those weeks when I had absolutely nothing at all to say, I know hard to believe coming from me. Well let me rephrase, lots of times I had things to say, just nothing that could be printed. At times it was a struggle to come up with an idea I found interesting enough to flesh out into an article.

There were lots of people who read my column and commented to me about it. Some comments were good and some were bad, but I was thankful for each comment because it meant someone was reading my column. It is kind of sad knowing I won't have a voice to the public anymore.

I think my column has been a random slice of the life of an ordinary twenty something young woman. And at times, it was very random, but that is life. This column also made me an award winning columnist through the Arkansas Press Association. Yeah Carin!!

I still plan to post blog entries at www.trumanndemocrat.com. I have so much to share about my new babies and my teaching endeavor. As always I will push my personal passions such as reading, recycling and voting.

Thank you so much to all the readers who either loved or loathed my column. I will miss writing for you every week.

Motherhood turns you into a very protective momma bear. I think I am even more so, because of what we had to go through to get our babies. I know they are 4 and 2, not exactly babies, but they are my babies. Recently in one of my blogs on this website I included a picture of my sweeties with the blog...

Change is sad
Posted Thursday, July 24, at 8:47 PM

I am sad to report I am no longer going to be working full time at the Trumann Democrat. I know, so sad. I have accepted a position as high school English teacher for the Turrell School District. So, I'm a rocket. I worked at the newspaper for six and a half years and this change is hard. I really loved my job and as excited as I am about a new start, it is hard to leave my old job...

Fireworks
Posted Tuesday, July 8, at 6:52 PM

This past fourth of July weekend my husband, James, and I took our two children, Leah and Campbell, to the Heber Springs Lake. My parents were also there along with many of my extended family members. And of course, it rained and rained, and we mostly stayed inside the camper...

I'm a tired mommy
Posted Thursday, June 26, at 7:47 PM

One thing I have noticed is that adults are always trying to find ways to get more sleep and kids are trying to find ways to get out of sleep. My two kids, 4 and 2, try their hardest to stay awake as long as possible. Campbell goes down pretty easy, if you follow his routine. We read, sing and then sing again and he is ready to sleep...

How all my dreams came true
Posted Monday, June 16, at 9:31 PM

When my husband, James, and I got married we knew we wanted children. After trying to conceive for nearly a year, we opted for fertility drugs for a couple years, when those didn't work we then tried a minor surgery. For the past several years we have tossed around the idea of adoption. We knew we would love an adopted child just like they came from us. We researched the different types of adoption, you would be surprised at the various options facing couples who decide to adopt...

Southernism
Posted Thursday, June 5, at 3:33 PM

My good friend Gary Henry sent me these and even though I have read them before I still laugh at them, so I thought I would share. Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hissie fit and a conniption fit, and that you don't 'HAVE' them, you 'PITCH' them...

I hate ants
Posted Wednesday, June 4, at 3:49 PM

Is it just me or has anyone else had a problem with ants in their house this year? This is the first time I have had ants and they are driving me crazy. We sprayed the yard, multiple times, sprayed inside the house and stil ants, ants and you guessed it more ants...

Summer
Posted Monday, June 2, at 2:01 PM

This past weekend my husband, James, and I took our nephew, Garner, to the Greers Ferry Lake with us. It was a really great weekend, the weather was beautiful - the sun was shining, but it wasn't to hot. It was our first trip to the lake with our new - and by new I mean new to us - boat. We all had a great time...

I am a former employee of the Trumann Democrat, during my time at the paper I was general manager, office manager, editor, paginator, photographer, columnist, paper deliverer, reporter, cleaning lady, and anything else as needed. It sounds like a lot, and it was, but it was fun. But most fun of all I wrote and will continue to write an award winning weekly column for the Trumann Democrat. I am married to James McClung, we are both lifetime residents of Trumann and graduates of Trumann High School. We have two children, Leah Elizabeth, 4, and Campbell, 2. I will begin teaching high school English to students in grades 9 - 12 at Turrell High School.
