Brawner vs WISPosted Friday, August 29, 2008, at 10:27 AM
What-if-sports (WIS) is a website I found a couple of years ago. It has football, baseball, NASCAR, etc simulations on it. It takes fantasy sports one step further in that a person not only selects his team, but manipulates the offering of scholarships, training, practice, line-up, etc.
Then once this is done a season is played over the course of less than two weeks with one game being played per day. Now understand this, I'm not trying to hype the site. However, it's respected enough that a number of sports site such as Foxsports.com contract with them to run simulation games.
To get an idea of how well a particular game will come out, WIS will play that game 1000 times. This, of course is done in just a few seconds in this computer age.
Anyway, to get to the point, they predicted the coming college football season for all D-I teams including Arkansas and ASU. A few weeks ago, I made my own predictions of both teams as well. Needless to say, I was a little more optimistic than the computers in question.
Following, I am reprinting my predictions along with the WIS predictions for an unbiased, unemotional comparison. The figure in parenthesis is the difference between my point spread and the computers.
Record 6-2, 10-3
So that's the rundown. By January 7 (and possibly before) we'll know who was closer.
Anyway, that's my opinion this week, for what it's worth.
