NOT THAT YOU ASKED
This is one that conservatives and Republicans are going to want to clip out and save. Heck, some of them might want to frame it.
It's time for the media and Democrats to lay off of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. After weeks of hyperventilated coverage, there is still no definitive proof that he had any role in the decision to close some lanes on a bridge leading into New York City to get revenge in a political opponent. It's perfectly fine to continue to investigate the matter and try to find something, but until they do there's no reason to continue reporting the story.
Why am I defending the GOP's best candidate for President? Easy. I like the guy. Unless proof shows up that shows he had something to do with the lane closing, he appears to be that rarest species on Earth, an honest politician. He says what he thinks, and he doesn't care about being politically correct.
I am so sick of politicians who try to finesse every answer they give to any question. Their main goal is to really say nothing, and above all else, not offend anybody, at the same time. That's not Christie's style. When a reporter asked him why he sent his children to private schools, he told her it was none of her business how he chose to have them educated. That was beautiful. Every politician in the country who heard that had to be wishing that they had the guts to say that.
I wish, back in 1992, when Steve Kroft asked Bill Clinton if he had ever been unfaithful to his wife, he had said, "That's none of your business. What goes on in our marriage is between Hillary and me, nobody else." There's no way in the world he would have done that, but I wish he had.
Christie also does what he thinks is right regardless of the politics. In 2012 when Hurricane Sandy devastated the Jersey shore, and President Obama came to the scene to inspect the damage, Christie literally embraced him. Republicans howled in outrage, but he did the right thing. As Governor it was his job to meet with the President and ask him for federal help for his state. Being standoffish to Obama just because they are in different political parties might have earned him brownie points with Republicans, but he wouldn't have been doing his job.
This doesn't mean that I would vote for Christie if he were to run for President. I am firmly opposed to the Republican philosophy of governance. On the other hand, there is no evidence that he did anything wrong in the bridge closing scandal, and until there is, it is wrong to continue running the story just to damage him politically. After all, it's not like it would be very hard to find another politician who has done something wrong.
