Not that you asked
Before beginning, I have to admit that I didn't watch the Republican debate on CNBC, so I don't have a personal opinion of how well the moderators did their jobs. Let's face it, since Donald Trump's handlers have been dosing him up with Valium before these things, the debates haven't been nearly as entertaining as the first one was. That said, after noting the almost universal disgust with the moderators from all of the media, I can guess that I didn't miss much.
The criticism, while universal, also followed predictable lines. The mainstream media and left wing commentators mostly complained that the moderators were ill-prepared and that their questions were idiotic. Those on the right, of course, claimed that the moderators were liberal and biased. They always say that. It's rule number one in the Republican Handbook.
However, some on the right suggested a new debate that I think would be a great idea. They called for the next Democratic debate to be moderated by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Ann Coulter on Fox News. Now that would be must see television. I just have one little problem with it.
The debate shouldn't be on Fox News. That's not because Fox News has a conservative bias. It's the fact that the knock-down drag-out Texas Tornado Death Match of a showdown between Hillary Clinton and Ann Coulter would be too big for basic cable. Heck, they could put that on pay-per-view. They could move it to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium and charge admission. Not only would it be a sellout, it would be the first entertainment for Cowboys fans in that place since September. If it was marketed right, it could raise enough money to pay for the fall election.
The debate is also a great idea because one of Hillary's big problems is she doesn't seem "likable." After appearing next to Ann Coulter for two hours, she would seem down right cuddly. Then again, next to Coulter, so would Charles Manson.
If Hillary could control her temper and just stick to the facts, by the end of the evening she would show the whole country that Coulter, Limbaugh, and Hannity are bullies and idiots. If she could keep her cool, by the end of the debate Coulter might have a nervous breakdown, which would mean that Hillary had also performed a public service.
However, the cooler heads in the Republican Party (if there are any) know that that is exactly what would happen, so they will never allow such a debate. They much prefer the debates with non-Fox News moderators. That way they can always blame them for left wing bias in an attempt to make people forget how pathetic their candidates are.
That's the strategy they have been using for years, and it works because, unfortunately, most of the voters are just plain dumb. How else can you explain how a party that opposes Social Security, Medicare, the minimum wage, equal pay, and every tax break for the middle class can win elections in a poor state like Arkansas? Remember, when you vote Republican, you're not just voting against a Democrat, you're voting against yourself.
