TRUMANN - Mrs. Betty B. Costley Cook, 77, of Trumann, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the family residence. She was born in Trumann, Ark., and had lived her lifetime in Trumann. Mrs. Cook was owner and operator of Trumann Hardware, was formerly employed by the Singer Co., and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Trumann. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Roben Cathleen Cook; one son, Kerry Verlon Cook; two sisters, Mildred Hooker and Peggy Strange; two brothers, Byram Costley and Adren Costley, and her parents, Claude and Fannie Belle Thomas Costley. Survivors include her husband, Billy V. "Bill" Cook of the home; one son, Timothy Vaughn of Proctor, Ark.; one daughter, Elizabeth Leanne Mitchell of Trumann, Ark.; two brothers, Claude Costley of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Lee William "Bill" Costley of Searcy, Ark.; three sisters, Irene Campbell of Tuckerman, Ark., Claudette Eitel of Hardy, Ark., and Kimberly Mason of Greencastle, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Monica Ray, Amber, Jodie and Dustin Cook, Misty Sample, Jordan Heavener and Kirsten Mitchell, and six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brianna and Matthew Ray, Kaylabeth Sample, Landon Heavener and Makynley Robinson. Funeral service was Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Trumann, Ark., with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark., under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann. Active pallbearers were Jordan Heavener, Dustin Cook, Wayne Mitchell, Frankie "Peanut" Ray, Bobby Huskey and Danny Bivens. Honorary pallbearers were Virginia Ruffin, Diane Milligan, John Lee Cook, Jason Cook, Gary Cook, Eric Cook, Charles Edward Cook, Larry Wayne Cook, Elish Neece, Jeff Ruffin, Dale Taber, James Ruffin, Randy Craig and Eddie Penna. Dorothy Louise Powell, 81, of Marked Tree, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, in her residence surrounded by those who loved her. She was a member of Marked Tree Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Nellie Carlton; her husband, William David Powell; brother, Billy Carlton, and a special aunt, Myrtle Hamm. Survivors include sons Ken Powell (Jackie) and Bill Powell (Sandra), both of Jonesboro; daughters, Dottie Arnold (Don) and Kathy Worthey (Ronnie), both of Marked Tree; brother, Wayne Carlton of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Mary K. Sisk, and four grandchildren, Donna Arnold Overton, Seth, Lauren and Lindsey Powell. Visitation was Monday from 6 to 8 in Central Baptist Church. Funeral services were Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church with Chad Stoddard officiating. Burial followed in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Barbara Louise Qualls Brewer

Barbara Louise Qualls Brewer of Collinwood, Tenn., was born May 29, 1947, in Trumann, Ark., the daughter of the late William Elmer and Dorcie Martin Qualls. She was united in marriage to James Hershel Brewer on July 3, 1965. Mrs. Brewer was a retired cafeteria cook at Collinwood Middle School and was a member of the Collinwood Church of God. Mrs. Brewer departed this life on May 21, 2011, at her home at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 22 days. She is survived by her husband, James Hershel Brewer; sons, James Anthony Brewer and wife Jancie, and Kenny Wayne Brewer and wife Michele, all of Collinwood, Tenn.; daughter, Tosha Lynn Stricklin and husband Jason of Rogersville, Ala.; grandchildren, Megan, Jamie Ann, Jace and Kassidy Brewer, Alyssa and Caleb Stricklin; brothers, Roger Qualls of Jonesboro, Ark., Robert Qualls of Iron City, Tenn.; sisters, Bernice Wiley of Trumann, Ark., Diane Holley of Lake City, Ark., and several nieces and nephews. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at Collinwood Church of God, Collinwood, Tenn., with Richard Neal, Butch Kephart and Jimmy Martin officiating. Burial followed in Jackson Cemetery, Cypress Inn, Tenn., with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Waynesboro, Tenn., directing. Pallbearers were Mark Brewer, Eddie Brewer, Tim Brewer, Dwayne Brewer, Shawn Hill and Michael Clanton.

TRUMANN - Mr. Elbert Carroll Mills Jr., 77, of Trumann, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. He was born and had lived his lifetime in Trumann. Mr. Mills was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, worked for the East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging and was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Trumann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Carroll and Maggie Lee Parrish Mills Sr. Survivors include his wife, Tsutayo "June" Mills of the home; one daughter, Carol Ann Harrelson of Trumann, and one step-sister, Janet Latham of Imboden, Ark. Funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Dr. Jim Shaw officiating. Burial followed in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark. Active pallbearers were C.J. New, Dale Whitlatch, Johnny Whitlatch, Bob Walton, Marvin Massey and Bill Matthews. Teresa Brock Pendergist, 58, of Austin, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011. She was born April 28, 1953, in Jonesboro, to the late Orvis Amon and Noma Pauline Adams Brock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pendergist; sister, Shirley Thompson, and brother, Druary Brock. Teresa was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cabot. She worked part-time as a receptionist for Hytrol and Alltel, however her true calling in life was being a mother. She is survived by her two sons, Amon Pendergist of Austin and his fiancé, Raychel Malone of Lonoke, and Jake Pendergist of Jonesboro; her daughter, Jocelyn Pendergist of Conway; her sister, Louetta Wicker of Jonesboro, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Cabot with burial following at 16th Section Cemetery in Austin. TRUMANN - Mrs. Edith Elwanda Rhoads, 82, of Trumann died Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born in McCormick, Ark., and had lived most of her lifetime in Trumann. Mrs. Rhoads was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting and attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Trumann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Egene Rhoads; one brother, Eugene Wilson, and her parents, Edgar Lee and Edna Carolyn Hogan Wilson. Survivors include two sons, Tommy Rhoads of Trumann and Darrell W. Rhoads of Marion; one daughter, Elwanda G. Goodwin of Las Vegas, Nev., five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, June 9, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, Ark., with Rev. Bobby Watts officiating. Burial will be in Willis Cemetery in Harrisburg, Ark. Pallbearers will be Ricky Rhoads, Nicky Rhoads, Jimmy Rhoads, Lloyd Rhoads, Odel Everhart and Ronnie Everhart.
