Mary Helen Brock

TRUMANN - Mrs. Mary Helen Brock, 84, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born in Savannah, Tenn., and lived most of her lifetime in Trumann. Mrs. Brock co-owned and operated E. Brock New & Used Furniture Company with her husband for many years and later worked in Jonesboro for DuPont Corp. She was a member of the Viva Drive Church of Christ in Trumann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Brock Sr.; two sisters, Beatrice Luna and Ocene Bonds; her parents, Milton P. and Lola Estella Young Parrish, and one grandson, Michael Shane Hobbs. Survivors include one son, Ernest Lee Curtis Brock Jr. and wife Jennifer of Jacksonville, N.C.; one daughter, Mary Lee Cunningham of Jonesboro; her longtime companion, Elbert J. Stanley of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Caleb Brock Cunningham of Memphis and Ashley Hancock of Wilmington, N.C., and six great-grandchildren, Noah Brock Cunningham, Coleman Cunningham, Ian Cunningham, Chandler Hancock, Conner Hancock and Cyler Hancock. Flowers, trees and gardening were passions of Mrs. Brock. Passersby could often see her out on her riding mower in her yard making it look neat and beautiful. She also enjoyed visiting and joking with friends like the folks she and Elbert frequently ate with at Main Street Café. Mrs. Brock was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Doing for them" was something that brought her much happiness. Funeral service was Friday morning, July 1, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Chris Harrell officiating. Burial followed in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark. Pallbearers were Howard Luna, Sonny Bonds, Ron Moss, Jerry McKinney, Oliver Hinds and Don Cole.

M. Dale Harvison

TRUMANN - Mr. M. Dale Harvison, 86, of Trumann, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Ark. He was born in Sulphur Rock, Ark., and had lived in Trumann for the past 58 years. Mr. Harvison was a retired electrician for the Singer Company in Trumann, veteran of the U.S. Army and Korean War, member of the Trumann American Legion, Past Master of the Trumann Masonic Lodge #693, was one of the original members of the Trumann Jaycees in the 1950's and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Trumann. He was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and was the son of the late D.M. and Ethel Boling Harvison. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patricia Massey Harvison of the home; one daughter, Patty DeFord and husband Greg of Trumann; one son, Danny Harvison and wife Karen of Trumann; four sisters, Vera Lewis of Sheridan, Ark., Leona Russell of Jacksonville, Ark., Lillian Phillips of Jonesboro, Ark., and Kathryn Smart of Harrisburg, Ark., and five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kelsey and Kylie DeFord and Josh and Matt Harvison. Funeral service was Wednesday afternoon, July 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Trumann with Rev. Charles Cooper and Rev. Jeff Weaver officiating. Burial followed in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark., under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann. Nieces and nephews served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Cook, Al Lindsey, Scot Taylor and Mike Dungan. Visitation was Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann. LEPANTO - Theardis Leroy Tucker, age 31, of Lepanto passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born July 26, 1979, to Lavon Brown and the late Theardis Tucker. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Theardis is survived by his mother, Lavon, of Lepanto; three brothers, Cortney and Daniel of Fayetteville and Lamar of Joiner, and five sisters, Brittany and Wittany, both of Lepanto, Contomile, Chelsea and April, all of West Memphis, and grandfather George Tucker of Birdsong. Services were Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Lepanto First Baptist Church with Rev. Lethe Whaley, followed by interment in the Pine Rest Cemetery.

TRUMANN - Mr. Daniel Wayne Harvel, 49, of Trumann, Ark., died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the family residence. He was born in Jonesboro, Ark., and lived most of his lifetime in Trumann. Mr. Harvel was disabled and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Leo and Helen Maxine Lacert Harvel. He is survived by one brother, Randy Leo Harvel and wife Kim of Lonoke, Ark.; one aunt, Patsy Joann Gaskins and husband James of Trumann; one niece, Malyssa Harvel, and one nephew, Mark Harvel. Graveside service was Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Pine Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark., with Rev. Gary Barker officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark., with Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann in charge of arrangements. Cletus Ray Griffith

Cletus Ray Griffith of Wright City, Mo., died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Griffith was born in Marked Tree, Ark., March 6, 1933, and was the son of the late Nova and Lou Griffith of Marked Tree. He was retired from A & J Appliance and was an honored Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Maxine Isbell, Ruby Stevenson, Ollie Woods and Neal Myers, and his brothers, Robert (Bob) and Paul (Buddy) Griffith. Cletus is survived by his wife of 52 years, Peggy Sue Griffith; his daughter, Helen Miller of St. Louis, Mo.; his sons, Harvey Harris of Marion, Ark., David Harris of Louisiana, Donnie Griffith of St. Louis, Mo., George Griffith of Troy, Mo., and Herman Strothman of Wright City, Mo.; one "sister," Brenda Griffith Bullis of Hillsboro, Mo., 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Lord Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial followed in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

TRUMANN - Mr. Charles Edward Kemp, 43, of Trumann died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the family residence. He was born and lived his lifetime in Trumann. Mr. Kemp was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Whitney Paige Kemp. Survivors include his wife, Vickie Kemp of Trumann; one son, Charles Kemp Jr., and one step-son, Chris Chaffin, both of Trumann; two daughters, Autumn Marie Kemp and Savannah Gail Kemp, and one step-daughter, Heather Chaffin, all of Trumann; parents, Danny Kemp of Harrisburg and Mary Thomas of Trumann; one brother, Gary Kemp and one step-brother, Cary Barker, both of Harrisburg, and two grandchildren, Brayden Scott Hensley and Jayce Cameron Hensley. Graveside service was Friday morning at 11 a.m. in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Sister Shelby Shelton officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark., with Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Gary Campbell, Josh Campbell, Chris Chaffin, Brian Mooneyham, Cary Barker and Gary Kemp. Honorary pallbearers were Scotty Jones and Lloyd Jones. TRUMANN - Mr. Dewan L. Morgan, 69, of Trumann, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the family residence. He was born and had lived his lifetime in Trumann. Mr. Morgan was a truck driver, formerly employed by Singer Co. and Roach Manufacturing Corp. and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Trumann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph L. and Lucille Tatum Morgan. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Morgan of the home; one son, Kelly Morgan of Trumann; three daughters, Kim McDaniel and Kay Whitten, both of Trumann, and Karen Nevill of Queen City, Texas; two step-daughters, Michelle Smith and Amanda McDaniel, both of Trumann; one brother, Barry Morgan of Trumann; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and a host of sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Rev. Kenny Guy McMahan officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark. Active pallbearers were grandsons, Ryan McDaniel, Jacob McDaniel, Seth McDaniel, Kain Nevill, Kyle Bryant and Jeff Medcall. Mr. John Acton McSpadden, age 62, of Buford, Ga., passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011, after a courageous 15-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Eurline McSpadden, and brother, Doug McSpadden. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Christi McSpadden, Buford, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Brad Hayward, Buford, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, J.T. and Sharon McSpadden, Flowery Branch, Ga.; grandchildren, Skylar Hayward, Nathan Hayward, Alyssa McSpadden and Kayla McSpadden; sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Garthe, Michigan, and Erma and Bill Evans, Lewisburg, Tenn., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. McSpadden was born Jan. 30, 1949, in Trumann, Ark. He was a 1967 graduate of Vicksburg High School in Vicksburg, Mich. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for M.G. Industries and also worked for Graber Industries. He was a former owner of Window Wear Direct Co. in Stone Mountain, Ga., founder of McSpadden Custom Framing Co. in Vicksburg, Mich., and was a partner in Just Tubs, LLC, in Flowery Branch, Ga. He was an avid tennis fan. He was of the Baptist faith. He was very involved with his children and grandchildren's sports activities. He will be greatly missed by his family. PAYNEWAY - Vela M. Payne, 91, of Payneway, was born Nov. 22, 1919, and died Sunday, July 24, 2011, in Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Mrs. Payne was the fourth child of nine children born to Walter Davis Kelso and Ada Pearl Kelso (Tucker) in Fulton, Miss. She married Gerald D. Payne on March 1, 1942, and they were man and wife for over 64 years. She was the owner/operator of Payneway's only Dairy Freeze, the "Dixie Queen" for 25 years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Michael D. Payne of Sherwood and Jerry W. Payne of Wilmington, N.C.; brother, Dave Kelso of Fulton, Miss.; sister, Verb Curtis of Matthews, Mo.; three grandchildren, Dr. Michael Payne of Fordyce, Jarrod Payne of Jonesboro and Dr. Jason Payne of Memphis, Tenn., and four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Alex, Jenna and Hayden. Visitation was Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Murphy Funeral Home in Marked Tree. Funeral services began at 2 p.m with Brother Patrick Tucker officiating. Burial followed in Marked Tree Cemetery.
