George "Rocky" Turner, Jr., 79, of Dyess died February 25, 2002 at Three Rivers Nursing Center in Marked Tree. He was born Sept. 6, 1922 in Centerville, Tenn., and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from the US Army after serving with the European African Middle Eastern Theater. Medals received include a Bronze Star, Victory Medal, two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, two Overseas Service stars, and one service stripe after being wounded in action in Italy on May 23, 2944.

Survivors include wife Jewell Turner of Dyess; one sister, Lavada Hall of Plant City, Fla.; one brother, Charles Turner of Moulton, Alab.; one son, Glen Turner of Dyess; four grandchildren, Roger Cassidy, Candy Galloway, Melissa Brawley, and Rocky Turner; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Lepanto, L.L. Yarbrough officiating, and burial will follow at Potter Memorial Cemetary. Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Roger Cassidy, Lavern Turner, Vernon Rogers, Jimmy Dale Rogers, Melissa Brawley, and Candy Galloway.
