Bruce Campbell, Director of the Arkansas Department of Rural Services, is pleased to announce State Representative Wayne Nichols' participation at the annual Arkansas Rural Development Conference hosted by the Arkansas Rural Development Commission and the Department of Rural Services. The conference was held May 29-31st at the Eureka Springs Convention Center.

This year over 70 state legislators joined over 400 mayors, county judges and other state and federal officials and community leaders to participate in this three-day event. The objective of the conference is to provide participants with the opportunity to gain a working knowledge about a variety of programs and services that are available to assist our rural communities and their leaders with development, planning and revitalization efforts. It is also an excellent opportunity for members of our state legislature to meet and gain feedback from the people that both make up and lead our state, towns and cities.

Informative sessions featured at the conference included, "Rural Community Resources and Development," "Arkansas Growing Hispanic Population," "Rural Issues of the 84th General Assembly," and a Political Roundtable.

"These legislators are extremely valuable to rural Arkansas and the Department of Rural Services. They have proven their dedication, experience, and active leadership both in their local communities and at the state level," Campbell states.

Keynote speakers throughout the conference included Governor Mike Huckabee and U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln.
