I have known Lonnie for over 50 years. Lonnie was born on November 26, 1934 in Marked Tree to Richard and Kathleen Scott. He lived at the Siphons # 7 Lock and Dam, 6 miles north of Marked Tree from 1935 to 1955. Lonnie graduated from Marked Tree High School and played quarterback for the football team. Lonnie also played Little League Baseball under coach Harry Smith. In 1955, he married Reba Lane. They have two children, Billy, deceased and Michael. Michael and his wife Patsy and their son Mike live in Marked Tree. His granddaughter, Amy Cahoon, her husband Clay and son Baron live in Jonesboro. Lonnie Scott has been involved in several local organizations. Lonnie served on the Poinsett County Welfare Board and the Marked Tree Jaycees in the 1960's, served as a volunteer fireman during the 1950's and 1960's, Marked Tree School Board for ten years and currently serves as a Marked Tree city alderman and has for the last 18 years. He has also been a member of the Poinsett County Democratic Committee since 1978 and has served on the Three Rivers Country Club Board of Directors. Lonnie was a member of the Marked Tree Lions Club for over 30 years and he, along with Dr. V.B. Smith, coached Little League Baseball for 15 years. Our son, Johnny Rye, Jr., played Little League Baseball for Lonnie Scott and Dr. Smith. Johnny said these two guys were two of the best coaches that have ever coached Little League Baseball in the city of Marked Tree. He and his family are all members of the First Baptist Church in Marked Tree.
