Mercer Owen Whayne, Jr.
Mercer Owen Whayne, Jr., 84, of Lepanto died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at his daughter's residence in Overland Park, Kan.
A pharmacist, Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Lepanto First United Methodist Church, Whayne was a lifelong resident of Lepanto. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and operated the Whayne Drug Store in Lepanto. He is succeeded in death by his father M. O. Whayne, Sr. who founded the drug store in the early 1900s.
Whayne is survived by Linda Whayne of Overland Park, Kan.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Lepanto, with Rev. Joe Sparks officiating. Burial followed in Potter Memorial Cemetery in Lepanto, with H.C. Bradford, Barry Galiger, Jr., James Flanagan, Jimmy Neal, Wilburn Slack and Ben Williams serving as pallbearers.
The family requests that memorials, in honor of Mercer Owen Whayne, Jr., be given to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Lepanto. Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto had charge of the arrangements.
