MT travels to P-W, this week for key battle

Friday, November 1, 2002

With a 69-18 victory over Turrell last week, the Marked Tree Sr. Indians now turn their attention to another district opponent this week, as they play the Palestine-Wheatley Patriots this Friday.

The Sr. Indians (7-1, 7-0) face a P-W team that defeated Parkin last week in a key battle. P-W (4-4, 4-3) are led by senior quarterback Clyde Kennedy and running backs Brandon Roberts and Quinten Mason. The Patriots are led by third-year coach Terry Farmer and they run the complex Wing-T offense. In the game last week against Turrell, the Marked Tree Sr. Indians moved the football against the Turrell defense, picking up almost 400 yards in total offense. The Sr. Indians were led by the one-two combination of running backs Anquion Williams and Kelcey Snow. The two combined for 306 yards and five touchdowns rushing. Williams scored on runs of 23, 30 and 47 yards, while Snow hammered out runs of 61 and 63 yards on the way to victory.

A possible key to the game is whether or not the Marked Tree Sr. Indians overlook the P-W Patriots, in lieu of a Nov. 8 matchup against the Hughes Blue Devils in Marked Tree. In order for the Sr. Patriots to defeat Marked Tree, they must stop Williams and Snow, along with potent quarterback Sugar Ray Jones.

Game time is Friday at 7:30 p.m.
