MT girls lose in Tri-County Tournament
It was a bad week for the Marked Tree girls basketball program, as both the junior and senior girls teams lost in the first round of the Tri-County Tournament. The Sr. Indians lost to host Paragould 42-23 in the first round game. Paragould led throughout the game, leading 10-3 after one quarter, 19-12 at halftime and 33-18 at the end of three quarters. Chastan Denning led the Rams with nine points. Marked Tree was led by freshman guard DeAndria "Rudy" Martin, who scored 10 points. The Jr. Indians battled in the first round game, but could not finish off Armorel as the Tigers defeated the Jr. Indians 28-26. Desiree Upshaw led Marked Tree and all scorers with 20 points. Brittany Brooks led Armorel with 10 points.
Marked Tree returns to action this week, as they face the Tuckerman Bulldogs this Monday. The Sr. Indians, under first-year coach Betty Burge start off district play this week, with home games against Hughes and Cross County.
