Gosnell defeats EPC, in baseball action
It was a tough day on the diamond Monday afternoon, as the Gosnell Pirates defeated the EPC Warriors 18-5 in 3AAA-South action.
The Pirates scored five runs in the first and 11 runs in the second inning and picked up 13 of their 15 hits in the first two innings on the way to victory. In the second inning, Brad Lawrence and Adam Rapert each connected on home runs, off EPC pitching. Lawrence hammered a three-run homer to left field, while Rapert smacked a grand slam to deep center field, leading the charge. Lawrence also led at the mound, where he held EPC hitless and struck out three in two innings to pick up the win. Shawn Lee led Gosnell, going 3 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs. Four other players grabbed two hits, while four others picked up one hit on the day. EPC scored four runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning to cap the scoring.
The loss caps a strange week for EPC, who took last week off and has seen several of the last few games rained out or postponed. After a road game on Tuesday against district rival Osceola, EPC plays two of their next three games at home. The Warriors face Trumann Thursday at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, EPC faces a tough non-conference opponent, Cross County at 4:00 p.m. On Monday, Trumann travels to Lepanto to face EPC at 4:00 p.m. On April 11, EPC ends its home season with a game against AAAAA Blytheville.
