Marked Tree City Council approves 2004 budget

The Marked Tree City Council voted 7-0 Monday night to approve the proposed 2004 budget, for all city services for the city of Marked Tree. In the meeting, held at the Marked Tree City Hall, the council discussed various aspects of the budget that takes effect on Jan. 1, 2004. The city expects revenues from various funds to reach $1.08 million, while appropriations are expected to reach $1.06 million. There will be two transfers from the 2003 to 2004 budget, which include $30,000 being moved from the general fund to the street fund and $5,000 from the general fund to the judges and clerks fund. The city expects to collect $511,086 in tax receipts and also expects a surplus of around $15,000 for the year, ending Dec. 31, 2004. Voting in favor of the budget were council members Mike Adams, Luddie Hatley, Cleo Johnson, Shirley Moore, Lonnie Scott, Dr. V.B. Smith and Dean Tucker. Council member Ritter Arnold was absent.
