Neal was born in Bondsville where he lived and farmed most of his life. He served in World War II as a demolition and rescue expert in the European Conflict with decorations including two Bronze Stars.
Neal was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a founding member of Neal's Chapel Baptist Church in the Bondsville community as well as Calvary Baptist Church in Lepanto.
Survivors include his wife, Deetress Orman Neal; one daughter, Glenda Kaye Webster of Jonesboro; one son, Michael Ray Neal of Danville, Ky.; and four grandchildren: Chad Morgan, Kyla Neal, Lyndsey Neal and Karlie Neal.
Neal was the beloved brother of Travis Turner Neal, George Worthy Neal, Martin Ray Neal, Julia Mae Moore and the late Mary F. Lewis.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents George Garrett Neal and Hazel. D. Worthy Neal, a brother and three sisters.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto. Rev. Mike Gonzales officiated and Chad Morgan delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in Potters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were George Lewis, Mark Neal, Bobby Leffew, Jimmy Tucker, Larry Neal, Terry Kemp and Steven Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Helms, Buddy Tyler, Wilburn Slack, Charlie Nanny and Arthur Bonds.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Neal's Chapel Baptist Church in Bondsville or Calvary Baptist Church of Lepanto.
