She was born to Charles and Myrtle Latham in Friendship, Tennessee, and moved to Arkansas with her husband in the late 1930's. She was a sales clerk and eventual store manager for Harris Department Store in Lepanto. Sue was active in the Order of Eastern Star, Lepanto Museum, Lepanto City Council and First Baptist Church.
She and Mrs. Mattie Anderson were instrumental in starting the first church library in Arkansas at the Lepanto First Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed being a writer of a column "The Scribbler" in the Tri-City Tribune in Marked Tree. Her drive and determination to perform any work and activity to the best of her ability will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Chambers and her son Robert (Bob) Chambers, Jr.
She is survived by her son, David and his wife Barbara in Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren: Brett (wife Pam) of Crossett, Jonathon of New York City, N.Y., Rebekah of Overland Park, Kan., Rachel (husband Jesse Bowman) of Kansas City, Mo., and Daniel (wife Kimberlee) of Kansas City, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Bowman. A very close friend, whose support could never be repaid by the family, John L. Henderson, will also miss her.
Memorial services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, at the First Baptist Church in Lepanto. Burial followed at Potters Memorial Cemetery in Lepanto.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Library or to the Lepanto Museum.
Arrangements were handled by Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto.
