Born at Morton, he was a graduate of Arkansas State University and served as the deputy prosecutor of the 2nd Judicial District in Poinsett County in the mid-1970s.
He served in the Arkansas Senate from 1991-2002. During that time he served as chairman of the Judiciary Committee and was a member of the Joint Budget Committee and the Legislative Council and State Agency and Governmental Affairs Committee.
An attorney, he had served in the Arkansas National Guard and was a member of the Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel Everett of Marked Tree; a son, Michael Wayne Everett of Los Angeles; a daughter, Casey Young of Horn Lake, Miss.; his mother, Lucille Everett of McCrory; a sister, Vonda Ann Milnor of Memphis; three brothers, Buck Everett of Wynne, John Everett of Prairie Grove and Scott Everett of McCrory; and two grandchildren, Zachary Cross Young and Colin Everett Young, both of Horn Lake.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.18 at the First United Methodist Church in Marked Tree.
The Rev. Bob Hager and the Rev. Sheila Jones officiated the ceremony. Private interment followed under the direction of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.
