Each track set up had a timer that was a 4" x 6" frame that moves up and down with vibrations of 60 times per second. A white tape ran under the vibrating arm of the timer with a carbon disk on it. The time tape was attached to the back of the car with masking tape. The car was then set loose to run a track. Students were able to look at the pattern of dots left on the tape to analyze the car's motion. The farther the dots were apart, the faster the car was going. The closer the dots, the slower the motion.
