Ray Brewer

Ray Brewer, 86, died on November 12 in Batesville.

Brewer, son of the late Joe and Daley Wallace Brewer, was born on September 11, 1918 in the Fifty-Six area of Stone County. He was united in marriage to Ruby Sexton on March 27, 1937 at Optimus. Brewer was a devoted husband and the father of six children.

During his working years, Brewer pursued many jobs including logging, harvests, construction, truck driving and farming. He was a member of the Calico Rock Assembly of God. At the time of his death, Brewer resided at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Melbourne.

Survivors include one daughter: Bernice Simmons and husband John of Marked Tree; four sons: Billy Ray Brewer and wife Ava of Calico Rock, Ray Brewer and wife Linda of Black Oak, Henry Brewer of Calico Rock and Jerry Brewer and wife Eva of Mt. Pleasant; sixteen grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter: Linda Sneathern; one brother: Kinley Brewer; three sisters: Little Brewer, Viola Brewer Franks and Mamie Whiteaker; and two grandchildren: Harold Brewer and Billy Ray Brewer, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15 at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Gale Wooten officiating. Burial followed at Optimus Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.

Pallbearers included Ronnie Simmons, Bobby Simmons, Andy Brewer, Charles Sneathern, Jimmy Sneathern, Tony Sneathern, David Brewer and Brent Brewer.

Honorary pallbearers were Joshua Stratton, Alex Judy, Colin Judy, Taylor Judy, Colton Sinyard, Christopher Jones, Isacc Jones, Andy Ray Brewer Jr., John Michael Dexter, Ronnie Simmons Jr., Tim Steed, Daniel Jordan, James Dean Barnett, Jade Brewer, Tyler Brewer, Ean Brewer and Chafin Owens.
