The Rev. Guy Whitney will officiate and burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Born at Little Rock, he was raised there and at Benton and was a member of a pioneer Saline County family. He was a graduate of Hendrix College at Conway and the Perkins School of Theology of Southern Methodist University at Dallas. During his long career in the ministry he served as pastor of churches in the North Texas Conference, the North Arkansas Conference and the Little Rock Conference of the United Methodist Church, until his retirement in 1991 from the Little Rock Conference.
After graduating from Parker High School at Chicago, he entered the armed service, where he served with the First Marine Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his discharge in 1946 he enrolled at Henderson State College at Arkadelphia and in 1948 entered the Army enrolling in the Officer Candidate School at Fort Riley, Kan. He served in various infantry assignments before, during and after the Korean War and resigned from the Army in 1955 to enter the ministry.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a former member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association and the Arkansas Civil Air Patrol, for which he was also a chaplain. Until his illness he was a member of the Legislative Council of the AARP and the Craighead County Democrats.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Kingsbury Ashcraft Jump of the home; two daughters, Jerry J. Humes of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Lynn J. McClean of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, John Michael Jump of Chicago; three stepdaughters, Sarah A. Gillis of Jonesboro, Anne A. Vaught of Bloomington, Ind., and Susan A. Self of North Richland Hills, Texas; two sisters, Maxie J. Jones of Ramona, Calif., and Betty Marie Banks of Lakewood, Colo.; one brother Theo D. Jump of Westminster, Md.; one grandson, Peter Michael Jump of Chicago; and six stepgrandchildren, Kathleen Gillis and Joseph Gillis, both of Jonesboro, Susan Elaine Self and Jacob Terrell, both of North Richland Hills, and Jason S. Vaught and Lauren V. Fox, both of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannene McDaniel Jump; his parents, Max and Abbie Jane Dobbs Jump; and one stepdaughter, Ellen A. Helms.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to United Methodist churches of Quitman, Wheatley, Augusta or Winfield UMC of Little Rock.
