LaVerne G. Smith

LaVerne G. Smith, 78, of Marked Tree died Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Saint Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro.

Smith was born on May 3, 1927 in Good Hope, Miss., to parents Jim Gibbs and Henrietta Smith Gibbs. Formerly of Clarksdale, Miss., she was a retired school teacher for Clarksdale Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, W.L. "Buddy" Smith.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judi and Harry Webb of Marked Tree; one brother, Jim A. Gibbs of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and three grandchildren: Josh Webb and Burke Webb, both of Jonesboro, and Ann Marie Webb of Marked Tree.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksdale, Miss, with Rev. E. Lawrence officiating. Burial followed in Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale.
