John Carl "J. C." Smith Sr.

John Carl "J. C." Smith Sr., 87, of Pocahontas died at the NEA hospital in Jonesboro Thursday, June 1. He was born April 25, 1919 in Commerce, Ga.

Smith, who was a Baptist, a farmer and a World War Two veteran sucombed to heart failure.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Smith and Inez Tanner; two sisters-Florence Chandler and Bessie Mae Smith; and two brothers-Jesse and Dewey Smith, and one granddaughter Cheryl Childers Norwood..

He is survived by his wife Geneva Smith of the home; two daughters- Phyllis Jackson of Harrisburg and LuAnn Bell of Bartlett, Tenn.; five sons-Gary and John Smith Jr. of Hughes, Ronald and Kenneth Smith of Pocahontas, and Michael Smith of Mayflower; and two brothers-Walter, James and Roy Smith of Taft Calif. He also leaves 11 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Services were held Monday and burial followed in Tyronza Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arraingements.
