Eastern Poinsett County officials set date for earthquake simulation

Planning an emergency response exercise was the main focus of last week's intergovernmental cooperative council meeting held in the fire station in Marked Tree. The exercise, according to Poinsett County emergency management coordinator Merle Williams, will be a functional exercise to determine what and how the cities of Marked Tree, Tyronza, Lepanto and Trumann will react to a catastrophic event, in this case a 7.5 earthquake in the area. Testing communication and response to the simulated event will give the county and its officials a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses in emergency response.
