He was born on December 26, 191, at Lepanto, the son of Sam and Lillian Hopkins Dempsey. He married Birdie Harbison and they enjoyed many years together. While living in Harrisburg, he worked at the Guy Henderson Saw Mill. After moving to Benton, he retired from Arkansas Face, a wall panel manufacturer. He was a member of the Burivan Baptist Church in Benton and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Dempsey; two daughters, four brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Claudie Dempsey and Tommy Dempsey, both of Benton; one sister, Norma Jean Lindsey of Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Weston Funeral Services Chapel in Harrisburg. Interment followed in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
