James H. Hunt, Jr., 50, of Lepanto, formerly of Benton, passed away Thursday, April 12, after a lengthy illness. He was a 1974 graduate of Benton High School and an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was an avid duck hunter, deer hunter and fisherman.
Before moving to Lepanto, Hunt lived for many years in Little Rock, working for radio stations KSSN, KKYK, KLRA, and KZ95/COOL95. He and his family moved to Jonesboro in 1994 to work for the radio station KBTM as station manager. He retired in 1995 due to illness.
Hunt was a deacon and youth Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Lepanto until his illness forced him to stop teaching in 2003. Yet his illness did not stop him from witnessing for the Lord through many hospitalizations.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Haymes Hunt and daughter, Sarah Catherine Lee Hunt of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Eason Hunt and sister, Jan Hunt, both of Lakeland, Flor. and his brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Lisa Hunt of Ft. Meyers, Flor.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Hunt, Sr. and his grandparents, Tom and Ethel Hunt and Allen and Hattie Mae Eason.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 16 at the First Baptist Church in Lepanto with Pastor Jim Duffel officiating.
Pallbearers were Bill Warren, Randy Parker, Gary Tedford, Randy Bridges, Tim Benton and Paul Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church Family Activity Center, P.O. Box 400, Lepanto, AR 72354. Funeral arrangements by Murphy Funeral Home of Lepanto and burial was in Potter Cemetery in Lepanto.
