Leonard Heard

Leonard G. "Joe" Heard, 80, of Harrisburg, died Monday, June 18 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Heard was born on June 10, 1921 in Decatur, Ala. He was the owner and operator of Heard's Greenhouses and Nursery for over 34 years. He was retired from the Singer Company. Heard was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Louise Heard on August 29, 2000 and two brothers.

Survivors include five sons, Leonard Heard of Brookland, Robert Heard of Trumann, Ronald Heard of Tampa, Fla., terry Heard and Larry Heard, both of Jonesboro; four brothers, Richard Heard of St. Louis, Mo., James Heard of Park Hill, Mo., George heard of Orange, Cal., and Charles Heard of West Helena; three sisters, Thelma Litton and Patsy Gilliam, both of Texas and Mary Woods of South Carolina; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro, with Murray Ray and Gary Brown. Interment followed at Willis Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Leonard Heard, Ronny Heard, Larry Heard, Robert Heard, Terry Heard, and Scott Heard.

The family asks that donations be made to St. Bernard's Regional medical Center Hospice in Memory of Katherine Heard.
