Mrs. Estelle Lois Brooks, 88, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro of natural causes. Mrs. Brooks was born Jan. 8, 1914 in Carthage, Miss and had lived in Trumann or the last 50 years.
She was a housewife and a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Trumann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Gordon Brooks in 1984, one son, Terry Lee Brooks in 1980, two sisters; one brother and was the daughter of the late Luther and Lucinda Powell Settlemire.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Nell Jackson and Effie Lois Presley both of Trumann and Georgette B. Guffey of Shirley, Ark.; two sons, Rev. Bennie Ray Brooks of Trumann and Jerry Lee Brooks of Harrisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Bertice Mae Barrett of Louisiana and Mrs. Alice Watkins of Harrisburg; three brothers, Joe Henry Settlemire of Louisiana and O.D. Settlemire of Jackson, Miss., and R.C. Settlemire of Morton, Miss; 30 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren.
The visitation was held Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church in Trumann with Rev. Kenny G. McMahan and Rev. Bobby Lee Brooks officiating.
The burial will take place at Holly Springs Cemetery in Harrisburg. The active pallbearers include Billy Brooks, Lee Jackson, James Walker, Jr., Marty W. Brooks, Charles Brooks, and Jackie Brooks. Honorary pallbearers include David Keeton, Clay Jackson, and Scotty Hudgens.
