Plans for Miss Mallard pageant finalized for Duck Festival

This year will mark the 20th Wild Duck Festival. Festival workers hope to make this year the biggest and the best yet. Each week, festival events will be printed in the Democrat as they are finalized.

The Miss Mallard beauty pageant will be Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Trumann High School Auditorium. Registration begins at 4 p.m. and the pageant begins at 5:30 p.m. Pageant directors are Cara Harrison, Brittany Payne and Jennifer Giddings.

Admission will be $3 for adults and $2 for children under 10. The entry fees are $25 for the beauty pageant, $5 for most photogenic and $5 for best dressed. One parent or guardian will be allowed to enter the pageant free of charge for each contestant.

Photogenic contest participants should bring a black and white or color photo of any size the night of the pageant. One winner will be chosen from each category. Winners will receive a trophy and a banner. The directors request that no Glamour shots be submitted.

There will be a winner and two alternates in each division. The winners will receive a beautiful crown, trophy and banner. Alternates will receive a trophy and banner.

Divisions are:

Boys - 0-11 months, 1-2 years and 3-4 years.

Girls - 0-11 months, 12-23 months, 2 years, 3-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years and 16-18 years.

All winners' and alternates' photos will appear in the Trumann Democrat provided that they report to the photographer after their division.

Contestants do not have to be Trumann residents or attend Trumann School to enter this pageant. Contestants may register at the door; ages 0-4 deadline for entries is 5:30 p.m. The deadline for other ages is 6:30 p.m. Contestants will pick up their numbers at the registration table. Please bring all photos to the pageant out of the frames and with name and age on back. Photos may be picked up after each division.

Entry forms can be picked up at formal shops in the area or the Trumann Chamber of Commerce located in the Mayor's office. Interested persons may call 870-483-5424 for more information.

In other festival news -

- There will be blood drive on Friday, Oct. 4 from 3 - p.m. at the Sports Complex.

- Vendors are still needed for booths. The prices have been reduced from last years to $40 for both days to $25 for both days. Churches and civic groups are not charged as long as they are not selling food.

The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the ABC Warehouse, formerly the old Obien building, and end at the Community Center. To participate in the parade call the chamber office at 870-483-5434.

Everyone is asked to please go directly to the sports complex after the parade for the Stars and Stripes Political Rally that will feature local politicians.

Live entertainment is scheduled for Friday and Saturday night.

The festival will conclude Saturday night after the winner of the $1,000 drawing was announced.
