Lady Wildcats softball can compete says coach

TRUMANN - The Trumann Lady Wildcats softball team will lose four seniors after this season. The team will lose first baseman Chelsea Barnhill, second baseman and catcher Janet Haner, pitcher Sarabeth Wray and Nicole Neeker, who has played many positions in her career.

Other members of the team include Alex Guthrie, Britni Renshaw, Crystal Ealey, Lindsey Owens, Michelle Lucas, Shandi Clayton and Tyler Atkins.

"It is critical for pitchers and catchers to do well (this season)," Trumann softball coach Cindy Wright said. Rivercrest will be one of the toughest opponents in the district this season but Wright said the Lady Wildcats should be able to compete with any other team in the district.

"We should be able to compete if we come out every game and take care of business," Wright said. "We have to take care of business everyday."

Greene County Tech defeated Trumann 8-5 in the first game of the season.

"We started out strong and then made some errors," Wright said. "But we finished strong. We competed in the last two innings."
