Watering the lawn properly

We have been getting some questions about how much and how often do I need to water in this dry, hot weather? It is important to water your lawn thoroughly. By this I mean to wet the soil to a depth of 4 inches or more. If you only wet the top 1 to 2 inches you will encourage shallow root growth. However, if your lawn is located on the ridge be careful only to irrigate as fast as the soil can absorb water without runoff.
