Motorists should take extra time at harvest

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

With harvest time upon us, it is critical that we take time out for safety. Not only the farmers who are operating their equipment on the farms, but also motorists who need to be patient and not make ill-advised attempts to pass the larger slower moving implements while they are in transit from one farm to the next. It can be frustrating at times when you're late for work, to get behind a tractor, combine, or cotton picker on a narrow two lane road. This is just one of the necessity's that make it possible for our Nations farmers to provide us with food and clothing. It is better to get there in one piece a little late, than to not get there at all. It is difficult for the operators of these large pieces of equipment to see you and anticipate what you are going to do next. Please be aware of your surroundings and be patient while traveling. If the motorists and farmers work together, we can hopefully have an accident free harvest.
