4-H offers after school programs

Eighty two percent of adults say after school programs are essential for their communities. When considering the recent studies that indicate that juvenile crime triples after 3:00 p.m., the availability of quality after school care becomes even more apparent. The latest research indicates that youth who do not participate in quality after school programs are more susceptible to becoming involved with violent crime, substance abuse, antisocial behavior, poor academic performance, and dropping out of school. However, there is good news. The U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Justice have compiled studies that show how students involved in quality after school programs have better academic performance, behavior, school attendance, and greater expectations for the future.
