My little E-bay monster

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

I recently took a course through the Trumann High School Fastrax program to learn to buy and sell on Ebay.

I had previously bought a couple things on Ebay, but was curious about the selling part of it. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot of neat tricks for buying and selling on Ebay.

Since taking the class I have sold several things, and I will admit, bought several things. But it is just amazing what you can find. I mean literally anything and everything is on Ebay. From Greers Ferry lake front property to heart shaped cornflakes. If you are looking for it you can probably find it on Ebay.

Last week I was checking on some items I had listed to sell and my four year old nephew, Garner, came into the room and wanted to know what I was doing.

I thought for a moment about how to explain the auction site to him. The best way I could explain it to him was to describe it as a race, whoever bid the most money on something won. And that really is exactly what Ebay is.

Then he wanted to know what he could race to buy. I told him to think about it for a minute and we would look up whatever he could think of he really wanted to look at.

To my amazement, he really did sit down and think about what he wanted to look at, not just blurt out the first thing that came into his sweet little mind.

He decided he wanted to look at Transformers. So I typed in Transformers and up popped listing after listing of Transformer merchandise.

I happened to stumble on a listing of old Transformer toys, there were multiple toys being sold by the same person. Garner picked out two toys, a jet and an under water thing and we bid.

Not wanting to pay a whole lot for either item, and since the auction was ending past our bedtime, I put in a maximum bid of three dollars on both items and we went to bed.

The first words out of Garners mouth the next morning, were, "lets go see if I won my Transformers!"

He could hardly stand the three minutes it took to get my computer up and going and get logged on to Ebay and sure enough he was the high bidder on both items. He was so excited.

He immediately wanted to check the mail. I think he is even more impatient than I am. When he went home that night he excitedly told his dad, "I bought my Transformers on ebay.com!"

He has been so cute about it, telling everyone, about ebay.com and he actually explains it really well. He is already plotting about what he can race for next.
