Adalah Bennett Shaw, 55, president and owner of ABS Entertainment Inc. and Hi Records located in West Memphis, passed away June 8, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

She was the only daughter of the late Alvin Bennett, executive and eventual president of Liberty Records from the mid-1950's until 1973, who was perhaps best known for discovering singer Julie London, powering the careers of Sonny and Cher and lending his name to the character of Alvin for the Chipmunks.

In 1977 Bennett bought the now legendary Stax Records and Hi Records. Alvin immediately sold Stax and soon after sold the publishing portion of Hi. Shaw was a member of First Baptist Church in Van Nuys, CA. She was also s member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Memphis Chapter.

Ms. Shaw leaves her mother, Cathleen Bennett of Bassett, AR; and her daughter, Sarena Maupin of Wilson, AR.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 14 at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with interment following in Bassett Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Music Cares, 1904 Wedgewood Avenue Nashville, TN 37212 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
