Slack was a special woman to many local residents, many of which helped to raise funds to pay for her medical expenses since she was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), a chronic nervous system disorder, last summer.
From bake sales to wrestling matches, residents poured out their support for Slack, support that didn't' go unnoticed.
"I've never felt more loved," Slack told the Tribune in an interview in January.
Slack was born April 5, 1955 in Memphis. She was a homemaker, of the Christian Faith, an organizer of the Red Hat Club in Lepanto and a volunteer with the Regional Aids Interfaith Network.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Charles and Florella Ashcraft of Lepanto and Arlis and Lenora Slack of Booneville, Miss.
She is survived by her parents, Wilburn and Mary "Minnie" Slack of Lepanto; one brother, Dale Slack and wife Judy of Rivervale; one daughter, Renee Jones and husband Brad of Osceola and one granddaughter, Abby Clair Jones of Osceola.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the First Baptist Church in Lepanto. Burial followed at Potter Cemetery in Lepanto with Bro. Gary Finley officiating.
