County EHC enjoys October activities

Thursday, November 20, 2008

The Poinsett County EHC clubs celebrated October with programs on native trees and flowers in your landscape and wild edibles. Each EHC club met during their meetings to share about their favorite landscaping scene. The thought of the month was Nature always sides with the hidden flaw. Maple Grove had a show and tell which consisted of 34 crochet and knit hats that club members made for cancer patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital and Hope Circle. For the program the clubs were invited to use a Powerpoint presentation that was created by University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service state specialists, Janet Carson and Tamara Walkingstick. These slide presentations were very colorful and interesting and included flowers and trees native to Arkansas as well as a handout with Wild Recipes. The helpful hint: For a natural insect repellent, mix two drops of oil of peppermint or lavender with 2 teaspoons of almond or sweet oil. This can be dabbed on the skin. The reminder of the month was for EHC members to send holiday recipes in to Sharon R. Linder to be included in the holiday recipes booklet.
