Venting over television programs

Monday, June 8, 2009
While watching TV last night, I was literally sick to my stomach. What is supposed to be family viewing time has exposed us to much too personal, sensitive and tasteless advertisements. It is exposing children to a few things a little too early, in my opinion. How do you explain to your small child about Viagra, condoms, male enhancement products and female personal products?

In the hour program that I was trying to watch during the 7 p.m. time frame, there were commercials for genital herpes, very offensive diarrhea and condoms. To me, these were embarrassing and contained too much personal and inappropriate material.

I resent the networks eroding the codes and doing this during early programming. There should be much stricter rules for TV commercials. Children require protection from such vulgar, foul language and the explicit sex that some of these advertisers stoop to using in selling products. I never dreamed such scenes and language would be shown in TV commercials.

Put an end to broadcast indecency. File a complaint with the FCC. It is a violation of the Federal law to broadcast obscene or indecent programming. Obscene speech is not protected by the First Amendment and cannot be broadcast at anytime.

Please check out this website on what you can do to help filter the public airwaves during family broadcasting www.parentstv.org (parents television council). Complain to the state agency Sen. Blanche Lincoln, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and Governor Mike Beebe. Let them know how you feel about the programming and ask their opinion on what to do.

I think they should be allowed to advertise their product just like the next person but there is a proper way, place and time. I understand they want prime time because that is when there are the most viewers. Please be more considerate of the children watching and of people like myself that find these degrading and offensive and give us some G ratings instead of the R ratings.
