On the surface, the thought of everyone having insurance sounds amazing. I know it will come with a huge price tag, and while that concerns me, that's not my biggest apprehension. I'm worried about government control of our health care system. And quite honestly, I don't think our government is very healthy itself.
Right now we live in a country that's drowning in debt. Not only are most Americans personally in debt to the tune of thousands of dollars charged on credit cards, but the country is drowning in a sorrowful deficit that has us all but owing our first born child to China.
Thanks to the massive bailouts, the government now owns stock in everything from banks to cars. Call me paranoid, but I don't like the fact that the government partially owns my home and my car now. I really don't want them involved in making decisions about my healthcare next. We all know what happens when the government takes over something. It becomes even more complicated than it is already. I can't fathom how dealing with hospital bills and insurance can become more complicated, but trust me...they will find a way.
Regardless of your opinion on the healthcare issue, you have to agree that it's crazy Congress is even looking at spending more tax money right now when our government's finances are hemorrhaging. We should be looking at paying back China the money we owe and getting a little money in savings.
Proverbs 22:7 says "the borrower is slave to the lender." When you put it in that perspective, it gets a little scary to think the United States is a slave to China. At the very least, we have to stay in their good graces in case they want to collect all those bonds. And if you've ever borrowed money from your in-laws, then you know what I mean.
If our leaders are really concerned about America having a healthy future, they need to work on healing her today.
