what is going on inside of the brain of someone selecting the lower right photo that this is an example of a yard of the month....WOW...have mercy....i sorry anyone has to live there but come on....LOL yard of the month...
Don Cole, Alderman of Ward 4, named this yard "because they have been trying" to clean it up. . . . GO FIGURE!! Some of the games these councilmen play!! Don't know why they run for office if they are going to do something like this. Sure hope this don't hit the Tonight Show jokes! I know a lot of people that used to live in Trumann and read the Trumann paper on line. Oh, what they must think!
I drive by this Yard every day, and I can see that there has been great improvement on the way the yard looks. It has been cleaned up and the Yard looks better now than it has for years. Most of the narrow minded people in Trumann see an old eyesore of a house, but the sign that was placed in the yard said YARD OF THE MONTH doesn't have a darn thing to do with the house.
It's not what most would want a nice clean brick home worth 60 to 100 thousand with a nice professional landscaped yard. Expensive ornaments and someone's friend living there.
I don't think anyone that saw this was thinking HOUSE. It IS THE YARD! People can't help where they have to live in life. They may have cleaned up alot over the last year, but MOST of the town and readers are (were) not aware of that. Unless one was to drive by this place every day, they (we) have no idea--from what it had come from. All we see is no grass on one side of the yard, the garbage receptacle setting in the front yard, the back yard is unkept, not one flower or anything that would merit the Yard of the Month.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't heard anyone speak of the house. It is only the yard. From this resident of Trumann, I can remember from years ago, the award did not go to the "most improved", the awards went to neat yards, mowed grass, flowers in the yard, etc.
To my knowledge no one has made fun of these dear people or where they live. It is the message that has been portrayed in your choice. NO ONE KNEW THAT IT WAS IMPROVED!
Alot of people in this town spend many hours in their yards, whether they spend money on it or not, they try to make their yards look nice. They do this never promised of any award or compliment. Many do this to help the neighborhood, the town to look better. Many do it because they feel better keeping a clean yard. I know I do. I want my neighbors to be proud that they have someone that takes care of their yard. I have neighbors that don't mow regularly, and when they do it looks like a hay field. I am not happy about it, but there is nothing I can do about it. But I would hope that the alderman or committee would not award it to a yard that looks like that. It may be a beautiful home, but when there is nothing in the yard except dead grass in strips that looks like it is hay that needs to be bailed, just because they are too lazy to go over that grass and cut it up again, they are too lazy to take their trash receptacle to the backyard, they don't deserve it. I am disabled, yet I move my trash can to the back, out of sight.
I would hope that Trumann Clean Up Committee would forget about the signs this year!
It's the yard, not the house! The whole point of the "yard of the month" is to help clean up Trumann. I guess they will just continue to give it to the people who always keep their yards clean. That sure does alot of good.
