Ms. Kane is Andrew's Mom. He is newly enrolled in the seventh grade at Marked Tree. Ms. Kane is also Xander's Mom. He is two years old. Ms. Kane is Nina Winningham's daughter. Ms. Kane describes her mom, who lives in Harrisburg, as her "backbone."
Ms. Kane is actually returning to a small town atmosphere, as she attended MTHS in the eighth, ninth and tenth grades. She had Ms. Thompson, the superintendent, for Biology. Ms. Kane will be teaching Algebra I, Algebra II, and algebraic connection. She has a vision for an eighth grade Algebra class for the advanced students.
Having grown up in Keiser, she graduated ASU in 2007 in secondary math. She taught in Osceola last year, and is excited about teaching in a small hometown school, a more intimate setting, where the high school math scores have been literally in the top ten in the state for the past few years. As I spoke to her, she seemed to glow at joining the Math atmosphere that the excellent math faculty at MTHS has engendered.
Students, she may be tiny, but don't mess with her. She is a second degree black belt in Taekwonda, having studied that art since she was 12 years old. She became interested in teaching math when she was substitute teaching to make ends meet.
Parents, I encourage you to come to MTHS and meet Ms. Kane, and see her enthusiasm for yourself. I am convinced that she will inspire your students to a stronger interest and ability in math, and be an asset to our community.
