Nellie Pearl Valentine
Nellie Pearl Valentine 99, of Trumann, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Valentine was born in Tuckerman, grew up and spent most of her younger years just south of Marked Tree, but had lived in the Trumann area most of her life. She was a member of the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Trumann.
Valentine was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Valentine, on Oct. 19, 1971. They raised four children on their farm in the McCormick Community; Velma Spencer of Arnold, Missouri, Doug Valentine of St. Louis, Missouri who passed this life, Donald Valentine of Memphis, Tenn., and Joyce Woodham of Jonesboro. Another child, Elmer Ray Valentine died as an infant. He was a twin to Velma.
Valentine was the oldest child of the late James and Ada Curtner Canada. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Emmons, Geneva Blasingame, and Ruby Hendrix., and one brother, James "Bud" Canada. She is survived by the youngest sister, Ida Mae Collins of Harrisburg. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Connie Spencer, Jimmy Valentine and Deborah Weaver, Deedra Wilson and Matt Valentine, Carl Woodham Jr., and Warren Woodham. She has 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service were Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Greg Clark and Jim Gillis officiated and burial will follow in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Matt Valentine, Carl Woodham Jr., Warren Woodham, Blake Wilson, Daniel Wilson and Gabe Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers were the Ladies Sunday School Class at Central Missionary Baptist Church.
