Lady Cardinals fall to CRA in NEAS opener

Thursday, December 24, 2009

The 10th seeded Lady Cardinals went home early from the NEA Invitational Tournament as Weiner fell 54-42 due to a second half flurry from 22nd seeded Crowley Ridge Academy Monday afternoon.

The first quarter ended in a 15-all dead heat as the two teams felt each other out for an edge, neither making any head way on the other.

In the second period, however, it looked as if the Lady Cards were going to run away with the game when Tosha Geror suddenly got a hot hand and 14 of her team leading 18 points for a 33-25 lead at the half.

It seemed as if the Lady Cardinals had used all their energy in the first half, though, as, after making the half's opening basket, succumbed to a 20-5 third quarter run.

Lady Falcons Aynsley Broom and Lindsey Killough led the charge in the period scoring nine and six points respectively, of half their individual totals for the game.

Even with the run, however, Weiner was down by only five, 45-40 as the fourth quarter began. It got no better in the final period, though, as Geror hit the lone bucket for two points.

The Lady Falcons scored nine and the 54-42 upset was history.

Geror led Weiner's effort with 18 points. She was followed by Paige Craft and Katie Armstrong with eight each, Hanna Burgess with four, and Kenzie Bartholomew and Mallory Jordan two each.

For CRA, Broom finished with 19 points while Killough had 12.
