The Harrisburg Hornets weren't going to have their basketball homecoming festivities spoiled. Not even by the undefeated team in their conference.

The Hornets beat the Manila Lions 56-54.

Zach Davis proved he not only has moves on the football field, but on the hardwood as well. Davis dished the ball off in a behind the head pass to Zach Combs for a last second shot that propelled the Hornets to victory.

Davis led the Hornets with 16 points and five rebounds. Chad Lacy had 16 points and four rebounds. Combs had 14 points and five rebounds. Dylan Drum had five points and five rebounds. Clint Cox had two points and five assists.

"We did pretty well tonight," Coach Brandon Craig said of his squad. "We didn't do well consistently but at the end we got it done. Basketball is a game of runs. We have to withstand their runs and make sure at the end of the game we've made our run. And we did that tonight."

Craig noted getting the victory over Manila was special in that his Hornets handed Bill Taylor's Manila Lions his first conference loss of the season.

"That was just great," Craig said. "You have to remember. Our first game this season was December 7. We got behind because of our football season. So we are still pretty young in our season, but we are just going to keep getting better."

Harrisburg is 5-7 overall and 4-5 in conference.

The Junior Hornets were not quite as successful in their match up with the Junior Lions.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the teams were tied up with 48 points each. In overtime, the Junior Hornets fell just short with a 58-55 loss that left the raucous crowd at the Harrisburg High School gymnasium stunned.

Brandon Mross led the Junior Hornets with 14 points. Kyle Mitchell and Brayden Honeycutt each had 11 points.
