"I am proud of the way the girls played tonight," said EPC Coach Bobby Lewallen. "They gave it everything they had. Brittany Fowler is probably one of the best players in our area. Whitney Ball and Shaniqua Monk did outstanding on her. They chased her down and really disrupted her. Last time we played, Brittany Fowler was on fire during the second half. We did a lot better on her this time."
Lewallen said the girls kick started the game with some big shots.
"We hit some big shots early that gave us some confidence that carried us throughout the game," Lewallen said.
Lewallen said BIC's defense was also a key to their victory in Lepanto last time. The coach said his team was able to handle the opposition's defense a lot better in Monette. "Their press bothered us a lot the first time we played and we were able to handle their press a lot better this time," Lewallen said.
Brittany Ball had 19 points to lead the Lady Warriors. Keyerah Young had 15 points. Terrika Madden had 11 points. Whitney Ball had nine points, Kelli Saddler had six points, Shaniqua Monk had four points and Denisha Madden had two points.
The Lady Warriors are 13-6 overall and 9-2 in conference.
The Junior Lady Warriors were not as successful as they struggled on the floor all night against the Junior Lady Mustangs, losing 47-32.
"We started two seventh graders tonight," Lewallen said. "We made some little mistakes we don't need to be making this time of year. We have our Junior District Tournament coming up in two weeks in Marked Tree. So we are going to have to step it up. I think we will be able to compete at District."
Teria Young went down with an injury at about 4:30 mark of the third quarter. Still hobbling, she came back in at the 5:30 mark of the fourth quarter. "She tripped and twisted her ankle," Lewallen said. "Teria wanted to get back out there and play. She really stepped up for the team when she was hurt."
Young led the team with 15 points. Synteria Ward had five points, Lexi Driver had four points, Alicia Ross and Jaye Young each had three and Alyson Phillips had two points.
