TURRELL - Mr. Clarence Rains, age 70, of Turrell, Ark., died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at the Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born Sept. 16, 1940, at Holland, Ark., he was the son of the late Henry Thomas and Opal Lucille Stane Rains and had been a lifelong resident of the Heafer community near Turrell. Mr. Rains had retired as a trailer mechanic from Fruehauf Trailer in Memphis, Tenn., and Watkins Motor Lines in West Memphis, Ark.
He was a deacon at the Barton Chapel Baptist Church and was a master gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Patsy Ann Rains of the home; two sons, Bryan Rains and wife Vickie of Trumann, Ark., and Jeff Rains and wife Lisa of Heafer, Ark.; three daughters, Lynn Puckett and husband Rick, Laura Monteague and husband Michael, and Becky Powell and husband Johnny, all of Heafer, Ark.; three brothers, Allie Rains of St. Louis, Mo., Claude Rains and wife Carol of Heafer, Ark., and Johnny Rains of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four sisters, Faye Hampton and husband Norman of Wynne, Ark., Juanita Cox of Searcy, Ark., Florence Warren of Naples, Fla., and Geneva Cole and husband Garland of Kearney, Ariz. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. J.W. Rains, and one sister, Mrs. Lucille King.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Barton Chapel Baptist Church near Tyronza with Rev. Dan Brawner, Rev. Kim Reeder and Rev. Tom Rains officiating. Burial followed in the Tyronza Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila.
The family received visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the church.
Pallbearers were Burt Turner, Thomas Warren, Ron Hood, Derrick Simmons, Clarence Parrish and Joey Doyle. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Maxwell and Brandon Harmon.
