The Marked Tree Lady Indians advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2A-3 District Tournament at Riverside (Caraway) Tuesday night with a 63-40 win over the Cross County Lady Thunderbirds.

The Lady Indians took control of the contest early, jumping out to an 18-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter. There was no looking back from there, as Marked Tree kept the pedal down, leading 31-17 at the half and 51-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

Three Lady Indians reached double figures in scoring on the night. Alytrius Perry netted 18 points to set the pace. Shaniqua Udell and Quandedra Perry added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Also scoring for Marked Tree were Emilee Timbs 9, Quanesia Perry 5, and Zamilla Scott 4

Candace Huey led Cross County with 16 points in the loss.

The balanced scoring effort was a result of the quick tempo style favored by the Lady Indians.

"We're playing good team ball," coach Marked Tree Derek Drewitt said. "We like to keep a fast pace, looking for scoring opportunities in transition, and that helps us spread the ball around."

The Lady Indians were scheduled to face Rector in the semifinals of the district tournament Wednesday. With a win, Marked Tree would advance to face top seed East Poinsett County at 7 p.m. Thursday, as well as earn a berth in the regional tournament, set to begin Feb. 23 at Marmaduke.

The Lady Indians had a test run of their first round matchup on Friday, as they faced Cross County in their final regular season game at Marked Tree. The Lady Indians came away with a 65-45 win in the preview.
