Richard Dale Herren

Mr. Richard Dale Herren, of Jonesboro, departed this life Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, at the age of 58.

He was born April 25, 1953, in Rector, Ark., the son of Prentiss Herren and Billie Ruth Shaw Herren. He lived in Trumann and the Jonesboro area for the past 20 years.

Richard was retired from Hytrol Conveyor in Jonesboro. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany and Korea. He did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a helicopter maintenance technician. Mr. Herron also served in the National Guard for 15 years.

He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars and lived a simple life.

Richard and Linda Sue Hills married June 9, 1984, and enjoyed 27 years together. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; a daughter, Billie Jo Hammell of Trumann; a son, Joseph Lee Thomas of Bay; six brothers, Jack Herren, Billy Herren, Steven Herren, Bobby Herren and Johnny Herren, all of Rockford, Ill., and Danny Herren of Farmington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Lee Thomas Hammell, Raven Makel Hammell, Breanna Nochole Hammell, Cody James Thomas and Savannah Skye Thomas, and one great-grandchild, Jerzye Makiah Thomas.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev. Bill Maxwell officiating. Shearlene Durham assisted as interpreter. Interment followed in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.

Rick's brothers and Linda's brothers served as pallbearers. Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the Herren family at
