Trumann Wildcats lose conference opener

Trumann opened conference play on the young baseball season as they hosted Valley View this past Tuesday in a 4A-3 contest.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Jay Ryan Woods and Dylan Dulaney both reached base on errors to start the inning and both ended up scoring for the Wildcats. Dillin Vincent drove in one of those runs with a fielder's choice.

Trumann (3-3, 0-1) held their 2-0 lead until the sixth inning when the Blazers plated four runs to take a 4-2 lead. Valley View tacked on five more runs in the top half of the seventh to go up 9-2. Zach Vinson singled to start the bottom of the seventh for Trumann. Michael Criss plated him with a double to set the final score.

Criss, Vinson and A.J. Winningham all had a hit a piece for Trumann. Criss and Vincent had an RBI each and Woods, Dulaney and Vinson each scored a run.

Nathan Maxwell took the loss for Trumann pitching 6 2/3 innings allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking two. Cameron Jones pitched a 1/3 of an inning giving up one run on one hit with one strikeout.
