Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills says a man suspected of committing a string of recent burglaries in several counties between Feb. 3 and March 19 has been arrested.

On March 19, the Sheriff's department was notified by the Jonesboro Police Department that an unknown person driving a gray minivan was caught burglarizing a house and that the van could possibly be headed toward the Trumann/Marked Tree area on Highway 63.

"The Poinsett County Sheriff's Department, Arkansas State Police, Marked Tree Police Department, Trumann Police Department and the Tyronza Police Department were involved in a search of the vehicle," Sheriff Mills said. "The vehicle was located and stopped in Parkin, Ark., by the Arkansas State Police. The driver of the vehicle was Billy Don Thomas of Trumann."

Thomas, 41, is currently being held in the Craighead County Detention Center. Sheriff Mills said his office is seeking warrants for six counts of residential burglary and six counts of theft of property against Thomas.

"During the evolution of this investigation, the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office worked closely with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas State Police, Craighead County Sheriff's Office, Jonesboro Police Department, and all agencies in Poinsett County," Mills said. "The cooperation and diligence of all agencies listed has led to the arrest of Thomas."
