Area teams fall in state tournament

Baseball and softball seasons have come to an end for all the teams in Poinsett County who advanced to the state tournaments.

In Class 1A softball, the Weiner Lady Cardinals were eliminated in the first round as they lost to the Viola 12-0 last Thursday in Bradley.

In Class 2A baseball action at White Hall, Marked Tree advanced to the second round as they beat Hackett 4-2 in the opening round last Thursday. The Indians saw their season end as they fell to Horatio 5-1 in the second round this past Saturday. EPC fell to Magazine 3-1 in the first round last Thursday.

In Class 2A softball action at White Hall, the Lady Indians of Marked Tree advanced to the second round with their 4-1 win over Hackett. Marked Tree didn't fare well in the second round as they were beaten 10-1 by Junction City.

In Class 4A softball, the Trumann Lady Wildcats couldn't get past the first round as they dropped a 5-1 decision to Ashdown in Heber Springs.
